Location

"A strategic gateway positioned at the crossroads of three countries and two coastlines."

uMkhanyakude occupies one of the most strategic locations in Southern Africa. Situated in the north-eastern corner of KwaZulu-Natal, the district shares international borders with Mozambique and Eswatini, providing direct access to regional markets and cross-border trade opportunities within the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The district is connected by the N2 National Route, making it a key transport and logistics corridor linking South Africa with neighbouring countries.

What visitors already come for

Established operators run game drives, whale watching, charters, horseback trails and guided rides across the district today. The tourism opportunity here is expansion of a working market, not the creation of one.
